A Hero's Welcome

I guess after spending 3 weeks of unlimited baby high chairs in restaurant, changing tables everywhere and smiley people, I wasn't prepared for the "Hero's Welcome" back in good ol' France.
Saturday, we went out to eat lunch, since there was no food at home yet and we didn't wake up early enough to get to the store before noon. I went to supposedly "Family Friendly" restaurant in France -- Flunch. If you are chic and have never been there Flunch is a "cafeteria style" restaurant, that is typically found in big shopping centers, you often find them inside of a Carrefour or Auchaun centre commercial. My local Flunch has 4 baby high chairs and about twice as many babies. The staff seemed annoyed when we asked where we could find one. I was going to steal one from another couple, but them realized that their kids food was still on the tray.

Sunday, I went into Marseille to buy a used stroller. Double strollers are about 600 Euros, so buying used, just makes sense. I parked on the street where the seller lived and when I came back to my car to change my little darling, some guy started yelling at me. At first I had no idea what the problem was, but figured out that he was upset about where I had parked my car. Since the car was in the space in front of "his garage" he thought that it was "his space". Not actually being marked, I thought that the guy was insane and told him "Bonne Annee" or Happy New Year and told him that I was leaving in "2 minutes". This only made the guy even more upset and he started swinging his arms and yelling more. At some point I know he called me a stupid American.... My hubby came out and the guy got really mad all over again and almost backed his truck into our car, leaving only a centimeter of space....

I wonder why people are so negative and aggressive. It is a good thing that the average person can't get a handgun. I fear that people would be shooting each other all the time. Perhaps, they should lace the water with prozac or something else that makes people feel good.

Well after the awaking of my "Welcome Home", I guess I will just have to look forward to the next vacation. Good thing there is so much vacation time, or else I would never survive...

Nothing makes you miss America more than the grumpy-for-no-reason French. And people wonder why I don't like to go out much...

Gosh. That sucks. That's when you tell him, loudly and clearly in English 'f. you'.
Try not to let it get to you.

I agree with Megan. But it's easier said than done.

We came home yesterday and reading your post made me dread going out - to carrefour especially.
